Record Turnout at 1 on 1 National Championship - Andy Solomon WINS!

Anglers from all over the mid-west came to Gun Lake Sunday in hopes of being the 2010 NBAA 1 on 1 National Champion. The record field wouldn’t have to battle wind or rain but the staggering high temperatures. With the day’s high reaching into the 90’s the question would be who could take the heat. When the dust cleared and the Pro-Tournament scales closed the one standing at the top was Andy Solomon from Walled Lake, Michigan. Andy is a true champion. When you read how he broke this championship down on Gun Lake, you’ll see why.

What makes this such an amazing victory is that Andy had never seen Gun Lake until the day of the championship. However, Andy did his homework using Google maps and located a start spot before leaving home. And what a start spot this would prove to be. Before second flight even had a chance to cast a line, Andy had his two biggest largemouth’s in his livewell. Throughout the day, Andy targeted shallow water bass and brought in a great limit topping the scales at 13.88 lbs.

Now, some of you may think this is a bit of “luck” until you see this statistic. Andy has fished nearly 80 events with NBAA this season. Out of those 80 events he has won nearly a third of them with most tournaments exceeding a 20 boat field. These unbelievable results along with his victory in the 1 on 1 National Championship proves that Andy Solomon is a true champion. Andy’s top finish and second place big bass in this championship is worth a new quad from Arctic Cat and a $200 check.

Other top finishers included Ron Nelson. Ron took second place with a great limit of bass that weighed in at 13.59 lbs. This limit of bass was worth $1000.00. Following in a close third, Don Watts the 2009 NBAA 1 on 1 National Champion. Don had 13.57 lbs and took home a $800 dollar check for his efforts. Big bass of the day went to Larry Hayes Jr. His giant largemouth topped the scales at just under 5 lbs at 4.94 lbs and was worth a $300 check. In total, the top 18 places were rewarded with well over $10,000 in cash and prizes.

Besides a record payback with cash and prizes. The competitors also enjoyed a free raffle. This meant the record crowd of anglers would have another chance to win thousands in great prizes. Plus, during the weigh in and the raffle everyone enjoyed beverages, hot dogs, chips and “great” cookies provided by Jenny Sprague.
