Championship Week 2011 is in the books. Day 1 (White Championship) the weather had broke and the sun was finally shinning. Pre-fishing results from anglers were mixed. Some had been catching large numbers of bass but no size. While others were catching big fish but not very many. Weigh in for day 1 would tell the story. Would NBAA anglers go out and find the giant bass of Kentucky Lake.
Teams from Nebraska, Ohio, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Illinois and more came out to fish. The weigh in was steady with good limits coming in but the giants of Kentucky Lake had not shown themselves, yet. Not until Ohio anglers Dave & Charles Hasty would weigh in the largest limit of the day going 19.02 lbs. This bag of giant largemouth’s topped the second place team by nearly ½ pound. Dave & Charles caught their big limit by using Strike King crankbaits and Red Dirt ¾ oz Spinnerbaits. They were targeting bass in the mouths of creeks where the road beds would intersect these locations. They found even with the rising water the bass would still hold to their original location. Dave & Charles adjusted and got there lures to the depths that they needed to get to. Their big win was worth a new Tracker PT 190 with a Mercury 115 HP OptiMax. Dave & Charles would like to thank their sponsors Mercury Marine, Strike King, Red Dirt Spinnerbaits, Bass Cat Boats, Schaeffer’s Oil and Bill Anderson from the Gingerwood Lodge.
Jamie Cunnagin & Brad Whitaker who were also from Ohio weighed in 18.60 lbs to take second place. Their second place finish was worth $2500.00. Rounding out the top 3 was a team from Michigan. Garry Mainstone Sr & Jamie Mainstone capture 3rd place with 17.66 lbs and a check for $1250.00. Big Bass of the day went to the team of Bill Ferris and Rob Badder. The big largemouth hit the scales and weighed in at 6.04 lbs. Not only did this team catch the big bass they also took 4th place over all. In total Bill & Rob took home $1600. 00 for their day on the Lake. Bill & Rob would like to thank their sponsors Goldstar Outdoors, Call Carol Bail Bonds, B&R Outlaw rods and Gamma Line.
