NBAA Angler Moving Up!
NBAA angler Don Watts from Gowen, Michigan is moving up. After a recent win on Muskegon Lake that Qualified Watts for the TBF Divisional Finals. Watts along with eleven other anglers from Michigan were off to compete in the TBF Northern Divisional Finals on Patoka Lake. Don and many of the Michigan anglers are no stranger to Patoka Lake. Earlier this Spring Don Watts and Ben Nielsen won the NBAA White National Championship on Patoka Lake.
This 3 day divisional final would prove to be very tough. After Day 1 Don held the overall lead weighing in 4 fish for 14 lbs 9 ounces. After day two and not weighing a fish in Don was standing in second place overall and in first place on the Michigan team. Third and final day found Watts weighing in 2 fish for 5 lbs 15 ounces for a total of 20 lbs and 8 ounces. Don’s total was enough to keep him in second place overall and tops on the Michigan team. Watts caught his fish using Poor Boy’s Baits. “I just want to thank Poor Boy’s Baits, National Angler Rods, Wave Spin Reels and BP,” For Watts, this is not only his first time to qualify for nationals but also his first time to make it to a divisional tournament. “This is my first experience at both levels and it’s an awesome time; nationals are going to be a lot of fun.”
Besides Watts having a great tournament the team from Michigan pulled out a three-peat. Narrowly edging out Indiana by less than 3 lbs to take top honors for the third year in a row. Congratulations to the Michigan team for a strong finish and another victory. Also, good luck to Don who will be competing in the National Championship in the spring of 2011.
