Hanover and Johnson Take Three Mile Thaw
It was cold and windy Saturday morning for the NBAA/IPB event on Three Mile. The morning started out with cold and snow. None the less, the field of 42 boats at the NBAA/IPB 2011 season opener launched at 6:30 with high hopes of catching bass.
Throughout the day, many anglers ran out of trolling motor batteries due to sustained winds of 20-30 mph. Many anglers commented that this was one of the most brutal days on the water that they have experience. No one knew what to expect at weigh in and I’m guessing it wasn’t a 20 lb plus bag of fish. The team of Hanover and Johnson proved skeptics wrong. Their winning bag of 20.66 lbs included a 6.34 kicker bass. Believe it or not, that was not the big bass for the day. The team of Mauer and Mayer brought in a 7 pounder!
Out of the 42 boats that fished, there was only 1 limit brought in, and that was the winning bag. Many anglers were left scratching their heads trying to figure out how to get a couple more bites. The second place team of Al and Jeremy Thayer said they had 5 bites resulting in 4 fish that weighed over 14 pounds!
All-in-all, despite the miserable weather, it was a good tournament. As always, the NBAA/IPB directors put on a great show at weigh-ins. There was excellent food available, and there was a large crowd that hung around until all of the awards and prizes were handed out. In total over $5000 in cash and prizes were handed out this day to the NBAA/IPB anglers.
