The NBAA/SOBC & OCDC Deer Creek Open Results!

The NBAA-SOBC/OCDC 2^nd Annual Event this year held at Deer Creek on September 3^rd, 2011. 39 teams came out and competed for cash and prizes. The morning registration went smoothly as everyone received a “Welcome Pack” containing items from sponsors and were treated to donuts and bottled water by Yum-ee Donuts of Columbus & Sunbury. The bottled water was a bonus since the weather forecast at Deer Creek was for 95* PLUS temperatures and sunny skies. As the day wore on, the forecast was “spot on” as temps reached 96* with bluebird skies and very little wind.

By 11am, the sun was scorching and we had heard reports that the fishing for most of our teams had slowed to a crawl. There were several reports that there were some teams that took advantage of the morning bite and had been culling by 8am, mostly in the North end of the lake. One team in particular, Scott Newlon & Rick Imler, were on the fish so well that they decided they were going to land EVERY fish no matter what sacrifice they had to make! The story is that Scott was trying to land a HAWG at one point, and Rick ran to the front deck with the net but forgot to stop because he was so excited. When he got to the edge, Scott says “he just kept running!” causing him to fall off the boat! THAT’S DEDICATION RICK!

All of our competitors returned to the weigh in area at 3pm and were treated to cold drinks, Hot Dogs & Hamburgers by The Annehurst Pool Swim Team of Westerville, Ohio for a small donation. Surprisingly, there were many limits brought to the scales with several bass over 3 lbs. However, one team in particular, CRAIG SAGLER & GARY STRICKLAND had a limit that eclipsed everyone else’s weight by over 3 lbs! With a total weight of 13.93 lbs (including a 4.40 lb kicker!) Craig and Gary took home the 1^st Place Plaques and $1025! CONGRATS GUYS!

The team with BIG BASS Honors was Dan Beard and Jen Byers who presented a BEAUTIFUL 5.25 lb Largemouth which won them $390.00 and a plaque. Dan & Jen also was our 2^nd Place winners… Congrats you two!
