Don Watts proves once again why he is one of the top anglers in the mid-west. Don captured first place and big bass honors at the recent WFN 1 on 1 National Championship on Gun Lake near Kalamazoo, Michigan. The winning weight of nearly 17 lbs came on crankbaits early in the morning. The big bass of Don’s sack was a GIANT 5.56 largemouth. Don’s efforts earned him a new Arctic Cat quad, a couple of great plaques, McDonalds gift certificates and $300.00 in cash. Following in second place with another great bag of fish was Aaron Feeback. Aaron's great bag of fished weighed in at just over 16 lbs and earned him a nice check worth $800.00. Rounding out the top 3 was Jason Young. Jason had a great limit of bass topping the Pro Tournament scales at 14.39 pounds and earning him a nice payday at $600.00.
The top 3 places had a nice payday, but so did several other anglers. The top 25 places earned either cash or prizes. Sponsor prizes included a Snapper boat latch system, WFN Rod, Bass Pro Shops gift cards, Leverage Landing Net, Wrangler Rugged Wear clothing packages, Mustang life vest, Humminbird graph, WaveSpin reel and more. Also, included in the day’s events was a FREE raffle for all of the anglers that fished in the championship. Prizes from sponsors in this raffle include WFN, Minn Kota, Bass Pro Shops, Wrangler Rugged Wear, Catch & Release, Tro-Kar, Power Pole, McDonalds of Gun Lake & Hastings, Star brite, Star Tron, Lucky Craft, Intruder and more.
Fishing was just part of the festivities at the WFN 1 on 1 National Championship. A major highlight of the day happened before a lure was cast or a fish was caught. Before blast off, every angler that took part in this year’s WFN 1 on 1 National Championship received a WFN Signature Series rod valued at $75.00. After the rods were awarded several anglers were seen rigging up their new WFN rod for a day of fishing. In total over $15,000.00 in cash and prizes were awarded at this year’s WFN 1 on 1 Championship.
