WFN: World Fishing Network and Comcast Host Fishing Trip for NBAA MichiganAngler Rick Katona with Baseball Legend Jack Morris
WFN: World Fishing Network, North America’s only 24-hour fishing lifestyle channel, and Comcast Michigan selected NBAA Michigan angler Rick Katona of Lake Orion, MI as the grand prize winner of the “WFN’s Fishing with Jack Morris presented by Comcast” Sweepstakes. After thousands of area anglers cast their name into the sweepstakes, it was Katona who had the chance to spend the day of Sept. 14 fishing with Detroit baseball great Jack Morris. Katona, his fishing buddy Dave Beninger spent the day on the water with Morris and a WFN camera crew on a Don Miller Sports Fishing Charter on Lake St. Claire in Michigan.
After being selected, Katona shared his favorite fishing story with WFN:
I was fortunate to have a father who loved to take me fishing. When I was 14 years old, my father and I were out fishing one summer evening when I hooked into an absolute monster… a seven pound largemouth which by Michigan standards is as about as big as they com. … I fought that bass for all I was worth. I finally got him up to the boat and I started lifting my rod to aim that bass at the net my father was holding, next thing you know the lure pops out of the jaw of that monster and goes zinging right by my head. I was heartbroken for a few seconds until my dad lifted that net from the water and there was my bass. I went from heartache to joy instantly and I think that was the moment I became an avid fisherman for the rest of my life.
Rick won the chance of a lifetime after reading about this opportunity on the NBAA website. The next thing Rick knew is that he had won the chance of a lifetime to go out fishing with one of the greatest major league pictures of all time.
Jack Morris was one of MLB’s most dominant starting pitchers during the 1980’s. In a career that spanned 18 seasons (1977-94) he compiled a 254-186 record and was a 20-game winner three times. He was a 5-time All-Star, 4-time World Series champion and the winningest pitcher of the 1980’s with 162 wins.
